5 WINTER SKIN SAVIOURS YOU NEED THIS SEASON!
My winter philosophy: "Layers are your best friends". Whether is for clothing or skincare ... layering light, hydrating skincare products is key to keeping MOISTURE levels UP during fall and winter time.
I personally learned the hard way ... and after 4 pretty harsh NYC winters and writing a beauty blog I can honestly say I mastered the layering technique and narrow it down to 5 easy steps.
So... let's get started.
1 STEP: Ditch the cleansing wipes and use a cream cleanser, a cleansing oil or a cleansing balm. Personally I'm NOT a big fan of cleansing wipes (Yes they are quick and easy) but I rather use my beloved Bioderma to remove my makeup and then ... cleanse my skin using either a cream cleanser or a cleansing balm.
Why ? Well, cleansing balms remove makeup and impurities in the most effective, gentle way. These are packed with amazing essential oils that nourish, hydrate and soothe the skin. Trust me ! you will see a big difference in your skin if you switch to these type of cleansers.
My two current favorites: Sunday Riley Blue Moon Tranquility Cleanser a luxurious sugar based formula with cocoa butter, mimosa flower wax and Azulene-Rich essential oils. And the Rituals Sensational Soft Cleanser A gel like cleanser that turns into the an oil as soon it warms up and gets in contact with the skin. It contains Aloe Vera, sun flower seed oil and leaf extract that hydrate, soothe and nourish the skin. This is Seriously one of my absolute favorites cleansers (I adore the calming scent. It completely relaxes my mind and get's me into a calmer mood) Oh, and the texture has a lot of slip to it, so is perfect to give my skin a little massage). Is affordable, smells amazing and it gets the job done. No wonder is SOLD OUT online. LOVE IT !
STEP 2: Add a hydrating serum to your skincare rotation.
Why? Serums are key on any skincare routine because they are lighter in texture (smaller molecules) that can penetrate deeply into the skin and deliver a very high concentration of active ingredients. This makes them a great tool for targeting specific skincare concerns, like hydration.
My favorite: The Clinical Hydration Booster from Dr.Dennis Gross . I usually use this as a serum before my moisturizer but, since this is also a booster I sometimes mix it in with my foundation, sunscreen or use it alone in targeted areas that need a bit more hydration. This is an amazing multitasker, great for every single skin type and perfect to use all year long because it has a lightweight formula that's never oily, greasy or heavy. Love it !
STEP 3: Add and oil to your routine.
If I had to choose only one step From this whole post it would be this one. Oils are the one skincare products I cannot live without. Wether your dry or oily don't worry ... there's and oil for every single skin type.
Why I love them? Because there's nothing more effective to soothe winter dry skin than a natural oil. These little guys are packed with vitamin E and fatty acids that hydrate and protect the skin on contact.
My two favorites: Josie Maran 100 % Argan Oil . I swear by this oil. It's heavy, it's thick and it's the only thing that truly cures my skin when it's completely dry and overworked.
Little side story: This completely cured my skin after my first awful NYC winter (that included a polar vortex and temperatures of -17 ). I mostly use it at night and wake up to soft, supple, plumped skin. This is one oil I will never be without. If you have combination, oily or don't like such heavy texture you can try the light version. I, personally love this one. Great for dry cuticles and super dry hair ends.
Now let's talk about the other oil I cannot live without which is a much lighter version that I use in daytime and summer time.
The Korres Wild Rose Vitamnin C Brightening oil: Is light, velvety smooth (if that's one way to describe and oil) and has a noticeable brightening effect on the skin!!!! I adore this oil, Ive raved about this oil and I also wrote a whole blog post about this oil HERE. I use it all year long no matter the season, and it always makes my skin look smoother, soft to the touch and overall healthy and brighter. It's a great oil to mixed in with your skincare or add a little drop to your foundation for extra Radiance.
The scent is amazing, the packaging with the little rose petals is amazing and the formula is to die for ! I mean ... can't you tell this is my #1? Now run and get it.
STEP 4: Use and abuse ;) your hydrating mist.
Why? This gives your skin an extra layer of moisture and it protects it from environmental aggressors. Is a quick easy way to reawaken your skin, add hydration and make your skin GLOW!
My Favorite: The First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist. It contains vitamin B5, E, C, and antioxidant boosters to combat free radicals. Love the soothing effect this vitamin spray gives to my skin. Best of the best.
And last but not least my STEP 5 is pretty easy: Exfoliate your skin.
WHY? Well this is the time where your skin gets dryer by the minute ... so removing all dead skin cells is key to keeping the skin looking fresh and ready to receive the rest of your skincare.
My Favorites: Chemical Exfoliants like Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength pads, Sunday Riley Good Genes and First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads.
That's all, Happy winter everyone.
